Joost van Bleiswijk’s workshop is a place of comfort, a retreat even. Yet, not to be mistaken for a calm and peaceful place. Far from it. In Joost’s workshop, the sound of tools, screwdrivers and saws fill the air. Some may think they enter a construction site, but when Joost opens the front door he knows he enters a world of endless possibilities. His workplace is a holy playground to tinker for days.

Creating something meaningful from scratch is not an easy thing to do; it can be both exciting and challenging. Dutch designer Joost van Bleiswijk knows this like no other and he works around the clock doing so. With craftmanship in his DNA, his genuine fascination with creating can be seen through his objects in the starting point of his design process. As he obeys all rules and trends, his approach goes against all conventions. His workshop displays huge stacks of materials and experiments, and an enormous amount of tools swirling sparks of fire. A nest, where a range of various designs unfolds.

Tinkering by Joost van Bleiswijk 2020

About Tinkering

Tinkering is the result of hours spent on composing rhythmic installations of Tinkering lamps, while searching for unusual ways of capturing and reflecting light. With the approach of creating a lamp that does not entirely block the view, Joost van Bleiswijk designed a suspension lamp with a modern feel. Due to its colour, shape and its available sizes, Tinkering easily blends in any interior and it is, for example, suitable for long dining tables and counters. All LED lights are covered by messing coated shades. Tinkering is powered through ELECTROSANDWICH® by Marcel Wanders studio and made from coated stainless steel and brass. Without any wires, you might wonder: is it magic?

Tinkering is available in two sizes: Tinkering 85 and Tinkering 140. Its essence and craftsmanship are translated into a sophisticated design piece that once again highlights Moooi’s contribution to the world of design. This lamp is special due to its poetic and inspiring use of materials, and the clean and luxurious look-and-feel that lift any interior to the next level of contemporary design.

About the designer

Joost van Bleiswijk was born in Delft and graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2011. Since then, he has mainly invested on developing his own collections. Joost’s works and collections are exhibited and sold at galleries and museums worldwide, including Moss Gallery in New York, Galerie Vivid in Rotterdam, Design Museum Holon in Israel and the Zuiderzee Museum in The Netherlands. “I find it interesting to work with construction methods to create techniques that work as dogma for my designs. I create contemporary versions of forgotten objects such as the grandfather clock, hourglass, chessboard and goblet. I draw inspiration from the past and study hundreds of years of product design to find archetypes and conclusions of shapes that lie in history. It’s not only the style of design I find very important but the object itself; I choose objects that tell a story.”

The Button

Tinkering 85 and Tinkering 140 are accompanied by Moooi’s digital proof of authenticity: The Button. This personal safe keeper accompanies every Moooi design. The incorporated NFC- technology in The Button makes counterfeiting impossible and acts as proof of authenticity.
By registering the purchase to your own name, you secure your investment and in addition will extend the warranty.
